Ian Lucas - Empathy with the Welsh Language?

Readers of this blog will recall previous blog entries here and here regarding Ian Lucas's failure to produce his Annual Report bilingually. Despite sending my letter in Welsh which would indicate my preference to receive correspondence in Welsh, he replies in English. Click on image to maximise.

I leave it to you to interpret his reply and whether has any empathy at all with the language and its speakers. I think this attitude clearly shows why we need a new Welsh Language Act, not only for the private sector but for MP's and others in the publice sector that the 1993 Act excludes.

How can we depend on Mr Lucas to deal with the Welsh Language LCO impartialy when this is the type of letter he sends to a constituent regarding the language?

That is outrageous!!!Arrogant beyond belief. What exactly does he disagree with, did he even bother to get it translated or did he just disregard it because it's written in Welsh?!Do you mind if I send this along with the original letter to Lesley Griffiths for comment?

I'm absolutely gob smacked.

That just says it all about the Labour MP's view of the Welsh language and culture. Pathetic.

It's a public document, do as you wish...clearly I have no rights as a Welsh speaker!

Arrogant and condescending t..t!
Doesn't he realise just how unpopular he and his party are without this spectacular own goal. Bring on the Westminster elections.

The Welsh political blogosphere will just love this one...the man's an a political naive ejiit, where on earth was his press officer allowing him to send out such a condescending anti Welsh letter doh.

Making that comment about a letter being sent in Welsh and then replying in English is tantamount to discrimination against Welsh speakers who have the right to use and by that I mean the right to receive communication from a public servant in the language of your choice.

It's a babysitter the man needs not a press officer!

I think you're being very harsh on Mr Lucas. The poor man has so much more to worry about than abusing his Communications Allowance - by this time next week we'll know what he's been spending his Allowances on. Let's hope he's used them more wisely than his Cabinet colleagues.

There are only two Welsh speakers that I know who are Labour members, Linda Subbachi and Alwyn Humphreys. I just don't understand how they can remain in a party where the MP is so insulting and condescending of their language and heritage. But I suppose Labour have been reliant for years on these 'sheep' who follow unquestiongly, if they carry on they will follow the Labour leadership over a cliff into oblivion.

Judging by his latest epistle in the Evening Leader, Humphreys might be preparing to jump ship again. Maybe he'll hang on to see if he gets selected for Martyn Jones's job.
