The Observer gets it wrong!

Today's Observer reports on Sinn Féin's Martin McGuiness's faltering campaign to become the next President of Ireland. McGuinness is in third place on 14% behind Labour's Michael D Higgins and the Independant Sean Gallagher who tops the opinion polls on 40% with 4 days to go until the voting commences.

Although the report is quite right about McGuiness's slump in the polls; it wrongly identifies Michael D Higgins as being in the lead when in fact the last few opinion polls show Sean Gallagher leading by 12 points over a week ago this has now been extended to 14 points; and barring a disaster with second preference votes looks very likely to become Ireland's next President.

Basic editorial mistakes likes this does nothing to enhance the credibility and reliability of what is our most reliable and balanced media outlet.

I've had all the tweets from journal.ie but haven't had the chance to catch up on the stories, don't suppose it should come as a surprise Gallagher's connections to FF have been pretty close.

I'm still hanging on for Michael D personally, the only to speak Gaelic fluently!
