True Finns a...Just little clearance before panic.

True Finns are not fully anti immigration party. Even their most tight candidates (and by the way new people representatives) states that they are against social immigration. They have nothing against people who want to come to Finland and make their living by working (and paying taxes). The biggest storm in a glass has became from statements like "we should select those asylum seekers who can integrate to our society".

Also it's not fully true that the party is anti-EU in black-n-white. FE. the party leader Timo Soini is part of the EU parliament. I think the biggest fear are opposing bailouts and specially in Britain opposing Finnish taxpayer paying British EU fees. It is also true that they are stating euro-zone growing without requisites met is really bad politics in EU level. Is there anyone who disagrees that countries which does not have stable enough economics to make euro stronger should not been taken in?

For country like Finland it is not possible to sustain strong economics with actions done by last government which overspent euro8 billions during last four years. It should be understood that people vote for healthcare, schools, elder care and local jobs instead of backing up irresponsible handling of economics in foreign countries.

This might be the best thing happened to Finland in decades. Lets see what kind of coalition will be built and what are the actions during coming months before pointing fingers and calling people nazis!

- True Finn voter from abroadAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-691671699575405507.post-87121078026540557992011-04-17T23:31:08.292+01:002011-04-17T23:31:08.292+01:00If this is a pan-European phenomenon then, rather ...If this is a pan-European phenomenon then, rather than simply tut-tutting, maybe we should try to understand why ordinary people - who are in no way quasi-Nazis - find such parties attractive. I suggest that the fault lies with the established parties who show no concern for the fears and concerns of many ordinary voters.

As for Finland, it has a history that makes many Finns suspicious of almost all others, not just Muslims. Ruled by Sweden, which left the residual issue of an influential Swedish minority (plus the Aaland Islands); then enduring tsarist rule and a policy of russification; next, as an independent country, being forced to fight alongside Nazi Germany because the West backed Uncle Joe when he invaded; and now part of a corrupt and mismanaged Europe in which the industrious north has to bale out the impecunious, tax-dodging south.

I think if I was a Finn I might be tempted to say 'F**k 'em all' and become somewhat introspective. No matter how predictably sanctimonious the Grauniad would be in misinterpreting my motives and slandering my people.Jac o' the North,https://www.blogger.com/profile/02032744625666336148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-691671699575405507.post-29848386719574928022011-04-17T22:22:59.249+01:002011-04-17T22:22:59.249+01:00This is what Guido Fawkes had to say:

Their tough on immigration, tough on the EU policies have seen the 16-year-old party surge from 4.1% of the vote in the last parliamentary election to 19.4%, tonight, taking their parliamentary representation from 5 to 39 MPs. At pixel time they have out-polled the Social Democrats and overnight smashed the Finnish pro-EU consensus.

No wonder Nigel Farage is smiling…

UPDATE: With 99.5% of the votes counted the True Finns were the only party to gain seats, taking 19.1% of the vote, level with the Social Democrats and just 1.2% behind the conservative National Coalition Party. It is the equivalent of UKIP gaining 120 Westminster seats…Plaid Gwersyllthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13986006252463873835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-691671699575405507.post-36852426369567954222011-04-17T22:17:12.312+01:002011-04-17T22:17:12.312+01:00It's not just the Beeb that's saying it. Populist parties combining right wing nationalism with old-fashioned left wing welfarism have made major breakthroughs in Sweden and the Netherlands this year following campaigns strong on Europhobia, Islam-baiting, and against immigration. Similar parties are already strong in Denmark, Austria, Italy, and France."Plaid Gwersyllthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13986006252463873835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-691671699575405507.post-52070391017642839682011-04-17T21:07:51.551+01:002011-04-17T21:07:51.551+01:00Maybe the BBC thinks that the True Finns are a nas...Maybe the BBC thinks that the True Finns are a nasty right wing party but are they?

They're anti-EU - Well so was Plaid in the not so distant past.

They want to end the compulsory teaching of Swedish in Finnish schools and end the requirement that all public servants are able to speak Swedish. Not against bilingualism in the 6% Swedish speaking areas.

They also want to encourage a self-sustaining birth rate - why should anyone be against Finns having babies?

No doubt in it's heart of hearts the left London media think Plaid is also a Nazi party. If they understoodd just how evil Nazism is, maybe they would be less eager to throw around the accusationAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
